A new adventure . . .

Like all of our adventures the fun started long before we arrived at the airport, with 10 inches of snow turning our usually sturdy van into a wheel spinning go-kart of death. So needless to say we were in high spirits when we got to the airport, on time and in one piece.

Here are some classic airport views, from our seats on the plane. I love the constant buzz of action that surrounds planes at an airport, and I'm particularly fond of all the specialised airport vehicles, they seem to all have their own personality.

And here we have more whimsical uses for treasures brought home for the beach, I’d love to fill one full of little tiny doodles and stories about adventures, and maybe even a treasure map or two . . .

Found things - Driftwood

There’s no point in denying it, we all have done it at some point (and if you haven’t, trust me, you one day will), whilst out enjoying a peaceful walk along the beach, stumbled upon an infatuating piece of driftwood, that you simply must take home with you, or your life will be incomplete. After slipping several disks getting the thing home, and finding little sandy deposits everywhere you go for the next month or so, what do you do with it then?

Well here’s one interesting idea, from Etsy makers triple7recycled who have transformed their salvaged wood into air plant holders, which suspend the plants in the middle of the frame – I think it’d look pretty effective no matter what wood you used, the weirder the more wonderful . . .

On top of things . . .

It was mid Movember 2012 (as you can tell by the fine growth of facial hair on display) and one of those clear winter days that leave your extremities at severe risk of getting frost bite.

We went exploring the moors on bike near our current residence, a fine mix of disused quarries, peat bogs, wind farms and chossy footpaths.

We made our way up to the highest visible point, which happened to be Knowl Moor (which was a challenge with the bikes) but worth it for the view, and more importantly the descent. Find more stuff On Top of Things here.

Pretty & practical

Just because form follows function doesn’t mean things can’t be pretty!!! These penknife charms from Field Guide Designs are both beautiful and practical, just what you need!!!

It's not often as a designer that you find something that you love - just the way it is. Today I stumbled across these beautiful mixed media prints from Jump Off the Page. They're so beautiful, and inspiring - they definitely go on the want list!!!

Some thing for the van . . .

I stumbled across this image the other day whilst out roaming, and the juxtaposition of it made me grin.  “Everything Here Is Wonderful” is a limited addition map print from the NY based axe makers, Best Made Co, they created a “Limited edition of 15 woodblock prints on topographic maps from the United States Geological Survey. Handmade at the Best Made Outpost in St. Paul, MN.” With three maps currently available, you can choose from Mt Hood, MN, Mt Mansfield, VT, and Marfa. I want one for the van, I only wish there was an UK one.
